This film does not participate of the "Award from the Public" since it is a special presentation with one screening for the Closure Ceremonie of the International Film Festival of Panama.

Synopsis: 
Ruben Blades, one of Latin America’s greatest music icons was at the center of the revolution of salsa music during the 70s. His lyrics are infused with thoughtful subjects and explosive rhythms, which catapulted the genre into the international scene. Blades has received 17 Grammy Awards. He is a Hollywood actor and a Harvard graduate, he even ran for the presidency of his home country. Blades gives intimate access to filmmaker Abner Benaim, who accompanies him in his tours. This documentary brings us up close with Ruben Blades and takes us into his music career that spans more than 50 years, revealing a musician still going strong, with musical and political ambitions. A movie about a living legend and his fight for a legacy.

Abner Benaim
Abner Benaim was born in Panama City. He studied International Relations at the University of Pennsylvania and Film at Tel Aviv’s Cámara Oscura. His features include Chance (2009), Empleadas y Patrones (2010), and Invasión (2014). He was one of the co-directors of Panama Canal Stories (2015), which screened at the fourth edition of IFF Panama. Ruben Blades Is Not My Name (2017) is his latest film.
